Azimio leader Raila Odinga has downplayed the stakes in his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat, stating that it is not a matter of life and death.

Speaking on Saturday, January 11, 2025, during a burial ceremony in Bondo constituency, Siaya County, Raila expressed confidence in his chances while reiterating his readiness to serve the African continent.

“This is Africa’s century. I am grateful for being part of this defining moment,” he remarked.

Raila further stated that if he does not secure the AUC chairperson position, he is prepared to return to Kenya and continue engaging in local activities.

During the same event, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga criticized human rights activists and politicians for what he termed as selective advocacy on justice issues.

Oburu accused them of remaining silent when Azimio supporters were killed during the 2022 post-election demonstrations but becoming vocal about abductions in the current political climate.

The senator called for consistency in addressing human rights violations, urging leaders to avoid selective outrage for political convenience.
