The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecasted rainfall across 36 regions this weekend, even as sunny and dry weather conditions persist in several parts of the country.

The five-day weather outlook, covering the period from Saturday, January 11 to Wednesday, January 15, 2025, indicates occasional rainfall in select areas, with the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley set to experience the most rain.

Residents in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley are expected to see morning rains, while afternoon and evening showers, along with thunderstorms, are likely to intensify between Saturday and Monday.

The affected regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.

Meanwhile, counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, are likely to experience sunny intervals, with light rains possible in the mornings. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

In the southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, afternoon and night showers are predicted on Saturday and Sunday, while mornings will be sunny.

While occasional rainfall is expected, the majority of the country will experience sunny and dry conditions. The advisory highlighted that these rains will predominantly affect the Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley.

Coastal and northeastern counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are expected to remain mainly sunny and dry, with occasional night cloudiness.

Residents of Turkana and Marsabit counties should prepare for strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), during the period.

In terms of temperature, the forecast predicts highs of 32°C and lows of 9°C, particularly in coastal, southeastern, and northern regions.
