Faces of top 2024 KCSE performers

A total of 1,693 candidates achieved a straight A in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, marking a significant increase from the 1,216 candidates who attained the same grade in 2023.

Data from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) reveals that boys continued to outshine girls in this top grade category. In the 2024 results, 1,137 boys earned an A plain, compared to 556 girls. This trend is consistent with the 2023 KCSE results, where 825 boys scored an A, while 391 girls managed the same grade.

National schools maintained their dominance in producing top-performing students. They accounted for 1,375 A plain grades, representing 81.22 percent of the total. Extra county schools followed with 163 A grades, while private schools contributed 142. County schools, on the other hand, managed only four A plain grades.
