The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has impounded two public service vehicles (PSVs) linked to George Ruto, the son of President William Ruto, following traffic violations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 9, NTSA confirmed that the vehicles had been seized and taken to a police station for further processing. The authority also shared images of the impounded vehicles while announcing that investigations into the actions of the matatu crew were ongoing.
“We thank you for bringing this to our attention. The two PSVs are at the police station for processing and further action,” read the NTSA statement.
The move by NTSA follows widespread outcry from Kenyans after a video emerged showing the matatus blatantly disregarding traffic rules. In the footage, one of the vehicles, identified as “Moneyfest,” was captured driving on the wrong side of Magadi Road while two individuals sat dangerously atop the vehicle.
One of the impounded matatus, “Moneyfest,” has been linked to George Ruto. The controversy deepened after it was revealed that the crew members of the vehicle had previously attended the Jamhuri Day luncheon at State House, where they took a photo with George Ruto.
NTSA’s action comes as part of its commitment to ensuring road safety and addressing reckless behavior by matatu operators. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have pledged to take stern measures against those found culpable.
