The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has unveiled a significant increase in prize money for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The tournament’s winner will take home a record-breaking USD 3.5 million (Ksh 453 million), representing a 75% increase from previous editions. The total prize pool has been raised to USD 10.4 million, marking a 32% increase aimed at enhancing the competition’s prestige.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament and its impact on African football.

“The CHAN is a vital competition for developing Africa-based football players and young talent. This increase in prize money is part of our broader strategy to invest in African football and enhance its appeal to fans, broadcasters, sponsors, and stakeholders worldwide,” Motsepe stated.

He also emphasized that CHAN plays a pivotal role in strengthening the global competitiveness of African football and CAF tournaments.

CHAN 2024 Schedule and Participating Teams

The tournament is set to run from Saturday, February 1, 2025, to Friday, February 28, 2025, with matches taking place across the three co-host nations.

Seventeen nations have already secured their spots in CHAN 2024:

  • Hosts: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
  • Qualified Teams: Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar

Two additional teams will join the tournament after completing the remaining qualification matches.
