Liverpool FC has often been at the center of transfer rumors involving key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, a new and much bigger revelation has taken the spotlight: the potential sale of the club itself.
On Tuesday night, Errol Musk, father of Tesla CEO and tech billionaire Elon Musk, claimed that his son is interested in purchasing Liverpool Football Club. Elon Musk, widely regarded as one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, boasts a staggering net worth of approximately £340 billion.
Speaking to Times Radio, Errol Musk hinted at Elon’s ambitions when asked directly:
“Does your son want to buy Liverpool Football Club?”
While cautious not to reveal too much, Errol responded, “I can’t comment on that—they’ll [Fenway Sports Group] raise the price. Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”
When pressed further on whether Liverpool FC was in Elon’s plans, he confirmed:
“He would like to. Yes, obviously. Anybody would want to—so would I. His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives there. We were also fortunate to know quite a few of The Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know.”
Liverpool’s Current Ownership
Liverpool has been owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) since 2010. The American ownership group has overseen significant successes during their tenure, including the club’s Champions League victory in 2019 and Premier League triumph in 2020.
However, rumors of a potential sale have periodically surfaced, with FSG reportedly open to exploring new investment opportunities or ownership transitions.
A Game-Changer for Liverpool?
Should Elon Musk pursue and successfully acquire Liverpool FC, it could mark a monumental shift in the Premier League’s landscape. Musk’s immense resources and global influence could propel the club to unprecedented levels of financial and strategic dominance.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Elon Musk or Fenway Sports Group regarding a potential deal. However, this revelation adds a new dimension to ongoing discussions about Liverpool’s future on and off the pitch.
