Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech

Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech has cast doubt on Cartoonist Kibet Bull’s abduction narrative, suggesting inconsistencies in the events that followed his alleged release.

Speaking during a live interview on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Koech dismissed claims that Kibet attended a disco in Luanda, Vihiga County, immediately after being released by his abductors.

“Cartoonist Kibet Bull claimed he was dumped in Luanda, Vihiga County. You cannot be released by abductors after 15 days and still attend a disco. It’s impossible. And you still look clean and comfortable—someone is playing a game,” said Koech.

The MP further alleged that some politicians were orchestrating fake abductions to stir public dissent against the government.

“How do you go to a disco after being released? How do you look so clean and still have money for beer and to dance with girls?” Koech questioned.

Koech’s remarks came after Kibet reunited with his family following his alleged release.

Cartoonist Kibet’s Statement

In a post on his X account, Kibet stated that he was abandoned in Luanda, Vihiga County, early Monday morning, January 6, 2025.

“They dropped me in Luanda, Vihiga at 3-4 am today. I did not know where to go or where to book a room,” he wrote.

“I looked for a place to stay until morning for my own safety because I did not know anyone or the place,” he added.

Mathira MP Calls for Investigation into Alleged Fake Abductions

Meanwhile, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate claims of staged abductions allegedly linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a letter addressed to the DCI Director, Wamumbi alleged that Olive Gardens Hotel is being used as a base for planning fake abductions aimed at inciting unrest.

“I have information that meetings are being held where youths feign abductions and are held incommunicado by the chief architect, Gachagua himself,” said Wamumbi.
