Chaos Erupts at Rigathi Gachagua’s Nyandarua Event Amid Clashes

Drama unfolded during a thanksgiving service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Shamata Ward, Nyandarua County, after clashes erupted between residents, police, and suspected disruptors.

Gachagua, the chief guest at the event hosted for Shamata Ward MCA Gitau Njamba, was at the dais when a teargas canister was thrown towards him. His security detail quickly intervened to secure the area.

Witnesses and video footage showed residents overpowering police officers, forcing them to retreat. Tensions escalated as Nyandarua Senator John Methu took to the podium, prompting further chaos.

Videos circulating online captured the crowd confronting police officers as teargas canisters were fired into the air. Reports also indicate gunshots were discharged to disperse the crowd that temporarily overwhelmed law enforcement.

Gachagua Condemns Police Actions

Gachagua criticized the police for using teargas against attendees and guests at the event.

“I want to tell our officers, please. You’re claiming a civilian threw a teargas canister—where did they get it from? You came here pretending to ensure security, yet you are teargassing people,” he stated.

Allegations Against Ruto and Area MP

The former Deputy President accused Ndaragua MP George Gachagua of orchestrating the chaos, alleging the lawmaker acted under instructions from President William Ruto.

Despite the disruption, Gachagua reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against the government, stating that threats and violence would not deter him from pursuing a better Kenya.

The incident has raised concerns about security and political tensions as leaders continue to navigate a contentious political climate.
