Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, has retained its position at 108th in the latest FIFA world rankings, following the conclusion of the November international break.
The ranking reflects a mixed set of results during the month, including a 0-0 draw against South Sudan in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, as well as stalemates against Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Despite these efforts, Kenya failed to secure a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), leaving the team stagnant in 108th globally and 26th in Africa.
With no further competitive fixtures until the resumption of the Africa World Cup qualifiers in March 2025, it is likely that Harambee Stars will maintain this position until the next FIFA rankings update.
Tanzania has surpassed Kenya in the rankings, climbing to 106th after securing their spot in the 2025 AFCON. Uganda also saw a notable rise, moving up two places to 88th following strong performances in the AFCON qualifiers.
Morocco, host of the 2025 AFCON and a surprise FIFA World Cup semi-finalist, remains the highest-ranked African team at 14th globally, with Senegal closely following in 17th place.
Kenya’s Group F rivals in the Africa World Cup qualifiers are ranked as follows: Ivory Coast is in 46th place globally, while Gabon sits at 84th. The Gambia, ranked 125th, is 16 places below Kenya, and Burundi is ranked 139th.
At the lower end of the rankings, Seychelles has experienced a significant decline, dropping seven spots to 201st.
Harambee Stars will have a chance to improve their ranking when the Africa World Cup qualifiers resume in March 2025. With stiff competition from regional and continental rivals, the team will need to deliver strong performances to climb in the FIFA rankings and strengthen their standing on the global stage.
The Fifa world ranking is determined using the Elo Model. This method adds or subtracts points for matches to or from a team’s existing point total.
The points which are added or subtracted are partially determined by the relative team strength, match importance, match result and expected match result.
