The Public Service Commission (PSC) has alerted the public to be cautious about a fraudster posing as a PSC official and falsely offering placements in the Public Service Internship Program (PSIP).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PSC condemned the actions of an individual who has been contacting PSIP applicants, claiming to secure internship placements in exchange for payment.

“It has come to our attention that an individual is reportedly contacting applicants of the Public Service Internship Program (PSIP), falsely claiming to offer favorable placements within the internship program,” PSC noted.

The commission clarified that there is no employee by the claimed name associated with the PSC and urged the public to ignore and treat the individual as a fraudster.

PSC emphasized that the commission does not engage in bribery, favoritism, or any form of corruption when offering internships or employment opportunities.

The public has been urged to report any suspicious activities, especially those involving claims of PSIP placements in exchange for payment or other forms of compensation, to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

For verification of any PSIP-related information, applicants are encouraged to contact the PSC Call Centre at +254 20 4865000 or reach out via its official social media platforms.

PSIP, launched by the Public Service Commission during the 2019/2020 financial year, is a government initiative designed to provide college graduates with opportunities to gain professional skills and work experience.

The program aims to bridge the gap between education, training, and employment by offering hands-on experience to interns. This experience enhances their skills and gives them a competitive edge in the job market.

In addition, PSIP instills public service values and ethics in participants, preparing them for careers in the public sector.

The program also seeks to establish a comprehensive database of skills to meet future human resource needs in the public service. It promotes inclusivity, diversity, and entrepreneurial opportunities, as outlined in the Constitution, and offers financial incentives through a stipend for participants.

PSC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and ensuring the program remains corruption-free.
