Kanda Bongoman can be described as one of the most iconic artistes of our time having have ruled the Lingala and Rhumba music scene for nearly three decades with soulful beats redefining the Congolese
Rhumba.
His singles such as Inde Monie is one of the popular numbers loved by his Kenyan fans and the evergreen musician recently revealed how he spontaneously and with great deal of improvisation and devising came up with this classic.
Kanda donning his trademark hat whose tradition came alive when his background vocalist and dancer Yondo Sister bought him three of such on his birthday in Paris, said he was in New York for a show and had exhausted the entire playlist but fans were still asking for more.
“When the promoter of the show came to me and asked if we could play at least one more number I told him were had drained the entire repertoire and with no more song to spare,” he narrated.
But the crowed was persistent chanting, “We want more! We want more!”
The promoter in response begged Kanda and his band if they could pull something for heaven’s sake.
“I told them we too as a band we were worn out. We had performed the entire time without a break, and we had reached not only the zenith but the end,” recalled Kanda who today resides in Paris.
But he finally budged edging on his b and members if they could create something new on stage as the audience watched.
It was a miracle that they started playing the instruments and Kanda started singing, Inde…Inde…Monie
And voila! The song took shape and there and then a new song was created.
Kanda explains the meaning of the song the word Inde meaning go slow and Monie a short for a name of a beautiful lass by the name Monica.
The song asks Monica to go slow on life as there are many treacherous distractions that can destroy life if caution is not taken.
