“Their discussions focused on the Nairobi Peace Process and regional peace initiatives,” read part of the statement.
Since retiring in 2022, Uhuru has been actively involved in peace initiatives across Africa, particularly in the DRC and Ethiopia.
The meetings with the diplomats came just days after Uhuru hosted President William Ruto at his Gatundu home. During the meeting held on Monday, December 9, President Ruto lauded the former president for his contributions to peace-making efforts in the East African Community (EAC) region.
“The leaders appreciated the need to achieve broader and more inclusive political consensus in the governance of our country to accelerate inclusive growth and fulfill the national development agenda,” read a statement from Uhuru’s office.
The statement further emphasized Kenya’s leading role in promoting peace and security in the East African region, highlighting the importance of diplomatic and peace-support initiatives in resolving conflicts and fostering regional stability.
