Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has criticized President William Ruto for alleging that some individuals are opposing every government project.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, December 4, Sifuna argued that the President’s statements do not align with his actions. He also assured Kenyans that they should not be intimidated, boldly proclaiming himself as the “spirit” opposing government projects.
“I want to tell Kenyans, do not allow anybody to threaten you. You have already taken back your power. You used to live as if you didn’t know you hold more power than these people. You are more powerful than all of us.
“Keep monitoring us as leaders. If someone says there is a spirit of opposing, I am that spirit. And your statement, Mr. President, does not go in line with your actions and those of your government,” Sifuna remarked.
The senator also disclosed plans by the Senate to summon Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho following his remarks warning those critical of the government.
“We, as Members of Parliament, will summon Joho to explain why he is threatening Kenyans, saying he will come for them. Who is he coming for, and in what way? He should remember he is no longer the Governor of Mombasa or the Deputy Party Leader of ODM. He left those positions. He is now a Cabinet Secretary and should speak as one,” Sifuna stated.
Sifuna further warned that leaders who display arrogance toward the public will face consequences during elections.
His remarks came a day after President Ruto claimed that a “negative spirit” of opposing all government initiatives was pervasive among some individuals.
