Police have apprehended three members of a suspected five-man gang accused of robbing members of the public near the CFAO Motors Kenya center along the Kisumu-Nairobi road.
In a statement on Monday, December 2, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that Elly Omondi Oyugi, Isaac Ochieng, and Wesley John Oyugi were arrested during a sting operation by undercover officers.
The DCI disclosed that the gang targeted the officers, unaware they were undercover and had uncovered their criminal scheme.

“Three criminals who have been ambushing members of the public near the CFAO center along Kisumu-Nairobi road have been arrested by undercover officers from Kasagam Police Station,” read part of the statement.
“Unaware of the operation to end their reign of terror, the gang attempted to attack the officers with crude weapons, only to realize too late that they had brought the wrong weapons to a gunfight,” the DCI added.
During the operation, three suspects surrendered, while two others fled. A manhunt is underway to capture the escapees.
“Outsmarted, three of the five dropped their weapons and surrendered, while the other two bolted like terrified warthogs. The escapees, now identified, are being pursued and urged to surrender at Kasagam Police Station,” the DCI stated.
The suspects in custody, Omondi and Ochieng, both aged 22, are awaiting arraignment. Meanwhile, Oyugi, aged 27, is receiving treatment at a hospital following injuries sustained during the arrest.
The DCI assured the public that efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing to ensure the safety and security of the area.
