Gachagua cancels funeral attendance

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reportedly canceled his planned visit to a funeral in Molo and a church event at Pipeline area of Nakuru county.
The decision comes days after chaos erupted at a funeral in Limuru, where suspected goons disrupted proceedings.
The incident occurred on Thursday during a funeral at Bibirioni Boys High School, Limuru. Chaos erupted as unknown individuals hurled objects and chairs while Mwathi addressed mourners, causing panic and forcing people to flee.
Gachagua, who was present, had his vehicles damaged during the altercation.
Reacting to the incident, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the Limuru incident, labeling it as state-sponsored, though official sources have not confirmed any governmental involvement.
“Despite statements from the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, and the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, blaming the chaos on a lack of intelligence and denying custody of former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi and area MCA Christopher Ireri, the evidence is irrefutable, this was a state-sponsored attack and abductions,” Musyoka said.
The Limuru MP is one of those missing in the aftermath of the violence.
Hon. Mwathi’s wife, Anne Mungai, alleged that her husband’s vehicle was sandwiched by two unmarked Subaru cars before he was taken away.
“Mine is just to plead for the release of my husband. He has served Limuru diligently and was forcibly taken at a funeral he attended in good faith,” Mrs. Mwathi pleaded.
On Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and other leaders over the incident.
Interestingly, Police Spokesperson Resila Onyango clarified that Mwathi is not a person of interest in the case and denied police involvement in his alleged arrest.
“We wish to clarify that the National Police Service did not arrest Hon. Peter Mwathi, and he is not under ainvestigations,” Onyango said.
However, Senators Karungo wa Thang’wa (Kiambu) and John Methu (Nyandarua), accompanied by other leaders, visited DCI headquarters seeking Mwathi’s whereabouts, claiming they were not receiving satisfactory responses.
