President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to heads of government agencies bypassing the e-Citizen platform, directing them to comply within one week or face consequences.
Speaking on Thursday during the first anniversary of the e-Citizen directorate, Ruto criticized the institutions for undermining accountability by using alternative payment systems.
“They have one week to comply. Otherwise, they know what to do—they can make use of the door,” the President warned.
He emphasized that migrating all payments to the e-Citizen platform would allow the Treasury to effectively monitor government revenues and enhance transparency.
Ruto also called for a report detailing transactions over the past three months by agencies already on the e-Citizen platform but still opting for alternative methods.
“I want a record of the last three months of government agencies that are already on the e-Citizen platform but have decided to use alternative means with grey spaces so that we can take action against the people who are undermining transparency in the collection of public resources,” he said.
