Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has officially established a Presidential Exploratory Committee to assess the feasibility of him contesting against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

The move was formalized through a gazette notice dated November 22, 2024, which outlined the committee’s mandate to collect, analyze, and evaluate information on Omtatah’s prospects for a presidential bid.

“Pursuant to Article 129, as read together with Article 138 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, it is notified for the information of the general public that Andrew Okiya Omtatah Okoiti, the Senator of the Republic of Kenya elected by the great people of Busia County, has established a Presidential Exploratory Committee,” the notice stated.

Omtatah explained that his decision followed careful deliberation and consultations with advisors on addressing the pressing concerns of the Kenyan public with bold and innovative leadership.

“We are at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, and the call to serve has never been more urgent,” Omtatah remarked on X . He emphasized his commitment to listening, learning, and building a platform that aligns with the values and priorities of Kenyans.

He added, “The road ahead requires thoughtful preparation, and this exploratory phase is a crucial step in ensuring that our vision for the future aligns with the hopes and aspirations of Kenyans. Together, we can shape a brighter future.”

The committee is chaired by Mary Kathomi Riungu, who has been tasked with coordinating its activities. Riungu will be assisted by Charles Ole Kabaiku, who also serves as the Diaspora Coordinator.

Other members include:

  • David Bwakali: Political and grassroots strategist
  • Victor Kipng’etich: Legal adviser
  • Hanifa Adan: Public Relations and media consultant
  • Jude Ogulla: Analytics lead, responsible for conducting opinion polls and surveys
  • Purity Ndambuki and Emmanuel Baraka: Joint Secretaries
  • Kevin Migwe Kimwatu: Spokesperson
  • Eng. Julius Okara: Patron, tasked with providing guidance to the committee

The committee has been given an 18-month timeline to fulfill its mandate. Its key tasks include analyzing political trends, demographic data, and public sentiment on national issues.

Additionally, the team will develop an initial campaign strategy, create a high-level roadmap outlining alliances, timelines, and resources, and recruit members for a potential campaign team.

Omtatah’s announcement signals the beginning of a detailed and strategic process aimed at preparing for the 2027 presidential race.
