The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced a temporary traffic disruption at Haile Selassie Roundabout on Uhuru Highway (A8) from November 28, 2024, to January 17, 2025.

The Authority said this is due to scheduled road works for the construction of a pedestrian underpass at the section which will commence on Thursday.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan, observe project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on-site,” the authority stated.

Last week, KeNHA also announced disruptions at the Gitaru Interchange on A8 (Waiyaki Way), where the Southern Bypass meets the Western Bypass. The construction began on November 19 and is expected to continue until December 19, 2024.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) informs the public of temporary traffic disruption at Gitaru Interchange on A8 (Waiyaki Way) and the Southern and Western Bypasses,” KeNHA noted in a statement issued on November 13.

The disruption is due to construction on the Right-Hand Side (RHS) Carriageway connecting the two bypasses. Motorists are advised to adhere to the traffic management plan, obey posted road signs, and cooperate with on-site police and traffic marshals.

KeNHA emphasized the importance of the Gitaru Interchange project, highlighting that, once complete, it will connect the Southern Bypass, Western Bypass, and A8 Road. This is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel times, and boost connectivity in Nairobi and surrounding areas.

Additionally, KeNHA announced a two-week closure of a section of the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway between Makupa Bridge and Changamwe Interchange. The closure, which began on Sunday, November 17, and will run until Sunday, December 1, 2024, is to facilitate road and drainage construction.

KeNHA urged motorists in the affected areas to follow the traffic management plans and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth operations during the construction period. The works aim to enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow in the region.
