Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has condemned a violent incident in Nakuru, where a man attacked and severely injured his wife during a domestic dispute.
The man allegedly attacked his wife with a panga on Thursday night, leaving her for dead before going into hiding.
Waiguru decried the violence, urging couples to seek peaceful resolutions instead of resorting to abuse.
“Whatever the disagreement, we should never resort to violence. Gender-based violence has no place in our society. I call on investigative authorities to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure justice is served,” Waiguru said on X.

“I also pray for Shiko’s healing and a swift recovery.”
Reports indicate that the suspect slashed his wife’s hands and threatened to kill their children. This incident follows the conviction of Francis Mwaniki, 45, who was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday by a Murang’a court.
Mwaniki had admitted to assaulting his wife, Rachael Wambui, with a machete on October 5 in Gitiri village, Kahuro subcounty.
The court heard that Mwaniki attacked his wife after returning home intoxicated with alcohol and bhang, slashing her on the cheek and right hand.
Recent statistics highlight the alarming rise in gender-based violence in Kenya, with women being the majority of victims. The Nairobi Women’s Hospital reported receiving approximately 4,000 GBV cases monthly at its gender violence recovery centers.
According to police statistics, at least 97 women have been killed in the past three months alone, marking a disturbing trend of rising femicide in the country.
Among the victims were a mother, her daughter, and her niece, who were all killed in Eastleigh on the same day and their bodies discarded in different parts of Nairobi.
