The outgoing US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Kenyans as she prepares to leave the country.
In a video shared on her X account, Whitman described her time in Kenya as an honor, emphasizing the strong connections she had made during her tenure.
“As I conclude my time at the Embassy, I want to take a moment to say Asante sana to all the incredible friends I have made in Kenya,” she said.
Whitman, who arrived in Kenya in August 2022, noted that her experiences over the past two years have been transformative. She traveled to 28 counties, witnessing firsthand the collaborative efforts between the US and Kenya in fostering a stronger future.
“Whenever I traveled across the country, I met amazing Kenyans working tirelessly to create jobs, improve healthcare, strengthen democracy, and fortify the bonds between Kenyans and Americans, which form the foundation of our successful partnership,” she remarked.
She also highlighted the privilege of sharing Kenya’s inspiring stories with Americans, engaging US business leaders interested in investing in Kenya’s thriving “Silicon Savannah,” and participating in President William Ruto’s historic White House visit.
“I began my term as ambassador by posing the question, ‘Why Africa? Why Kenya?’ Well, nobody is asking that anymore. The word is out about Kenya’s incredible potential,” Whitman stated.
Reflecting on her tenure, she expressed admiration for Kenya’s landscapes, dynamic economy, and, most importantly, its people, whom she praised for their unparalleled hospitality and passion for strengthening US-Kenya relations.
“There is so much I will always treasure about my time in Kenya, but above all, I will remember the people who welcomed me with open arms and a shared commitment to building a stronger partnership,” she said.
Whitman concluded her message with a note of gratitude: “I am thankful I had the opportunity to serve as the US Ambassador to Kenya and for the lasting friendships I have made along the way. Asante sana!”
