State advertises 217 scholarships in China, Hungary

The Ministry of Education has announced the availability of 217 scholarships for Kenyan students to study in China and Hungary for the 2025/2026 academic year.

In a notice published on MyGov, the Ministry revealed it received confirmation from the Embassy of China that 17 scholarships are being offered by the Chinese government.

“The Chinese government is offering 17 scholarships to deserving Kenyan students to pursue undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programs for the 2025/2026 academic year,” read part of the statement.

Scholarships in China

Detailed information about the scholarships and the application process can be found on the Ministry’s website (www.education.go.ke) and the Campus China website (www.campuschina.org).

Applicants must meet specific language and academic requirements:

  • Undergraduate or general scholar programs: Must have HSK Level 3 proficiency in Chinese (exemptions apply for students studying the Chinese language).
  • Master’s or doctoral programs: Must have HSK Level 4 proficiency in Chinese.
  • Must meet the admission requirements of the universities applied to, including academic qualifications and language proficiency.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Undergraduate: Minimum KCSE mean grade of B, under 25 years old, with an original KCSE certificate and strong grades in relevant subjects. Candidates must have completed secondary education within the last three years.
  • Master’s: Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division, under 35 years old.
  • PhD: Relevant Master’s degree from a recognized university, under 40 years old.

Applications, including the standard and online forms, must reach the Ministry of Education by Friday, December 6, 2024, at 5 pm.

Scholarships in Hungary

Hungary is offering 200 scholarships to Kenyan students for undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral studies in various fields, including agricultural sciences, computer science, legal science, engineering, medical and health sciences, and natural sciences.

Additionally, Hungary will provide One-Tier Master’s (OTM) scholarships, which cover both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, in fields such as general medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, architecture, and veterinary medicine.

Details about study programs and host institutions are available on the online application system (https://apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu), accessible from November 15, 2024.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Undergraduate: Minimum KCSE mean grade of B, under 25 years old, with a grade B in core subjects for the preferred field of study. Must have completed secondary education within the last three years.
  • Master’s: Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division, under 38 years old.
  • PhD: Relevant Master’s degree, under 45 years old.

Applications, including the standard and online forms, must be submitted by Friday, January 17, 2025, at 5 pm.
