A university student was on Monday, November 8, arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts for allegedly publishing false information about President William Ruto.
In a statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) revealed that the accused, David Oaga Mokaya, shared an image of a funeral procession and falsely claimed it depicted the President’s body being transported.
“Mokaya was charged with publishing false information by posting an image of a funeral procession featuring a casket draped in the Kenyan flag and escorted by military officers in ceremonial uniform. The caption suggested it was President William Ruto’s body,” the ODPP stated.

The charge sheet indicated that the offense, contrary to Section 22 (1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018, was committed at an undisclosed location on November 13, 2024.
The caption Mokaya posted on his X account, “Landlord @bozgabi,” read, “President William Ruto’s body leaves Lee Funeral Home,” which the prosecution argued was intended to be perceived as authentic.
Mokaya was granted a bond of Ksh100,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh50,000. The case mention is scheduled for December 4, 2024.
