The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Monday, November 18, issued additional directives concerning its upcoming grassroots elections scheduled for November 27.
In a statement, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) announced new guidelines while clarifying earlier directives issued on November 4.
“In collaboration with the Party’s Legal Committee, the NECC has conducted training and formally appointed the County Elections Committees (CECs) for all the 47 counties,” read part of the statement.
To facilitate the elections, the ongoing registration of members will be temporarily suspended on Wednesday, November 20, to allow for the preparation of the voter register.
The party emphasized that elections will only take place at specific gazetted polling centres nationwide. Each polling unit will elect 30 officials, distributed among three committees: the Steering Committee, the Women League, and the Youth League, with 10 officials for each.
ODM further directed members to convene at their respective polling centres on November 25 to elect presiding officers who will oversee the election process in each unit.
Individuals interested in vying for unit positions are required to pay a non-refundable fee of Ksh100 to the presiding officer before 10 a.m. on the election day and obtain a receipt as proof of payment.
“Eligible members will undergo electronic verification at their designated polling units before being allowed to vote or vie for positions,” the statement clarified.
Candidates dissatisfied with election results can appeal by filing a complaint in the prescribed format within 24 hours of the results’ announcement. Appeals will require a fee of Ksh3,000, payable through the party’s shared mobile payment system.
The party encouraged members to familiarize themselves with the election guidelines and use the remaining days to register as voters before the November 20 deadline.
Members are urged to cooperate with the directives to ensure a smooth and transparent election process.
