Karen Nyamu Responds to Auction Claims Over Unpaid Rent

Date:

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has broken her silence following reports that her household items could be auctioned over unpaid rent.

Taking to X on Monday, November 18, the Senator responded lightheartedly to the claims, promising to address the issue soon.

“Do you know why I’m laughing? A colleague has asked me, with concern, if I’m into casino gambling, wondering where my money is going. Be patient, I’ll share my story,” she wrote.

Nyamu, however, asserted that the auctioneer’s actions were improper and revealed her plans to pursue legal action.

The auction stems from unpaid rent of Ksh 1.25 million for a property in Runda.

A court order issued by Milimani Senior Magistrate A.H. Nyoike on November 13, 2024, stated that Nyamu’s belongings might be auctioned to recover the arrears.

Fantasy Auctioneers has been authorized to carry out the recovery on behalf of the landlord, with police officers from Runda Police Station instructed to provide security during the process.

“The officer commanding Runda Police Station or any other officer under his command is directed to assist in maintaining law and order,” the court order read.

Nyamu, who ventured into politics in 2013, has had an illustrious career. She first won a seat as Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Nairobi County under The National Alliance (TNA) party and later chaired the Nairobi County Assembly’s Committee on Education and Social Services.

In 2017, she contested the Nairobi Woman Representative position on a Jubilee Party ticket. In January 2020, she was appointed by then-Governor Mike Sonko to oversee the Agriculture docket in Nairobi’s government.

Currently, Nyamu serves as a nominated Senator under the UDA party.
