Police in Nairobi are detaining a woman suspected of drugging a reveler before robbing him of cash and electronic gadgets.
Identified as Consolata Nyangai, the suspect is accused of stupefying a Chadian national with whom she was partying at Gemini and Quivers clubs.
According to a complaint filed at the Kilimani Police Station, the victim claimed he was robbed after accompanying the woman to his residence at Spring Gardens Apartments.
“The victim alleged that after enjoying several rounds of drinks, he invited Consolata to his residence, where the incident occurred,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported.
The Chadian national reported losing USD 4,000 (approximately Sh520,000), Sh10,000 in cash, a Samsung S20 smartphone, and a Corn C105 phone.
Following forensic analysis of the evidence, DCI detectives tracked the suspect to her hideout in the Hunters area of Kasarani sub-county. She was found in possession of the stolen phones.
Further investigations revealed that Nyangai used proceeds from the crime to purchase high-end household items, including a 75-inch Samsung television valued at Sh107,000 and a Ramtons cooker worth Sh55,000. Receipts confirmed the purchases were made after the alleged robbery.
“Items believed to be proceeds of the crime were recovered, including a 75” Samsung TV and an electronic cooker,” the DCI stated.
Additionally, the suspect was found with two national identity cards, one Kenyan and one Ugandan, raising suspicions of her involvement in other criminal activities.
Nyangai is currently detained at the Kilimani Police Station and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, November 18.
In a cautionary advisory, the DCI urged the public to remain vigilant during the festive season, warning that criminals often target revelers in social settings.
“This case serves as a reminder to stay vigilant, particularly in social settings, as criminal activities continue to rise in urban areas as we approach the festive season.”
