Siaya Governor James Orengo has called for swift and thorough investigations into the fatal shooting of former County Assembly Clerk Felix Isaac Olwero in Kombewa, Kisumu County.
Olwero, who was the husband of Siaya County Executive Committee Member for Sports Angeline Oduor, was shot dead on Monday morning outside his restaurant. Police later described the killing as a case of mistaken identity.
Governor Orengo expressed shock at the incident, terming it senseless and unacceptable.
“We condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms and demand swift, thorough investigations to ensure justice is served. No life should ever be cut short in such a senseless manner,” he stated.
According to police, officers had been dispatched to respond to an attempted burglary at White House Resort in the area. They claimed to have cordoned off the premises before spotting five men approaching.
The suspects were reportedly armed with pangas and other crude weapons, and police said they fired warning shots to disperse them. In the confusion, Olwero, who was also rushing to the scene as the owner, was fatally shot.
Initially, police alleged he was among the burglars before later admitting it was a case of mistaken identity. Detectives have since launched investigations and revisited the scene on Monday as part of the probe.
The resort’s management confirmed they had faced multiple break-in attempts in recent days and appealed for increased patrols to curb the attacks.
Olwero’s body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
