The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted rainfall in various parts of the country over the next seven days.
In a weather report released on Tuesday, December 17, Kenya Met announced that rain is expected in parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Coast.
The affected counties include:
- Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, and Central & South Rift Valley: Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.
- Central Highlands: Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi counties.
- South-Eastern Lowlands: Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta counties.
- Coast: Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal parts of Tana River County.
However, the department warned that North-eastern and North-western Kenya are likely to remain generally sunny and dry during this period.
Temperature Forecast
Kenya Met also noted that daytime highs exceeding 30°C are expected in the Coast, North Eastern, and North Western regions. On the other hand, certain areas of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, and the Central & North Rift Valley could experience extremely low nighttime temperatures of below 10°C.
