Nine people tragically lost their lives in a road accident along the Kitale-Eldoret road on Friday morning, with three children sustaining injuries.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed that the accident occurred when the driver of a lorry lost control and crashed into the matatu.
“The matatu had 12 passengers, and only three children survived,” said Mwanthi.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, which took place around 7 a.m.
“We urge road users to be cautious and avoid overspeeding,” Mwanthi added.
The collision, which occurred head-on with a heavy impact, left some passengers trapped in the wreckage. The matatu was en route to Eldoret, while the lorry was headed to Kitale. Witnesses reported that the vehicles collided on a narrow stretch of road just after Soy market.
